How to use
Using a small amount, work over baby’s body for a calming and bonding massage.
•The main benefits of baby massage are to promote bonding and attachment and provide sensory communication with your baby through touch.
•The best time to massage your baby is when they are quiet and alert, and in-between feeds.
•The room needs to be warm and comfortable for you and baby
•Gather everything you need together ie massage balm, towel, and nappy changing bag
•Wash your hands
•Undress baby, put a little massage balm on your hands and rub your hands together making a swishing noise so your baby can hear and associate the sound with massage – let your baby know its massage time
•You can do a full or part massage – it is up to you and your baby. Babies usually prefer firm but gentle strokes. Too light and it can feel ticklish so take your baby’s lead.
•Whilst you are massaging your baby, maintain eye contact so you can see whether they are enjoying it and talk or sing to your baby.
•Each body part only takes a few minutes. Finish the massage by placing your hands gently on baby. Replace nappy and cuddle your baby skin-to-skin if you wish before redressing.
